Historical Restoration in Pittsburgh, PA
At Markantone Painting, we recently had the privilege of working on a unique and challenging historical restoration project for the Carnegie Museum. Collaborating closely with senior curator Gretchen Anderson, our team dedicated nearly two years to meticulously researching the best methods to strip the anti-graffiti coating off the museum’s prized possession, the Carnegie Diplodocus, known affectionately as Dippy.
Using advanced pressure washing techniques, we carefully removed the old outer layer, revealing the intricate seams where Dippy had been assembled. Our skilled craftsmen then artistically remolded these seams with a special substrate to match Dippy's corrugated skin. This precise work required not only technical expertise but also an artistic touch to ensure authenticity.
To provide long-lasting protection, we applied several marine coatings generously donated by Pittsburgh PPG. Over the course of three weeks, our team worked diligently to restore Dippy to his former glory, much to the delight of his dedicated followers on social media, who eagerly anticipated the new reveal.
This project exemplifies our commitment to excellence in both pressure washing and historical restoration. At Markantone Painting, we take great pride in preserving history while delivering top-notch results. For expert pressure washing and historical restoration services, trust Markantone Painting to bring your project to life.
